Perforated, pierced or folded façades: which to choose

A metal façade can hide equipment, filter the sun, give privacy or turn an ordinary building into one people remember. There are three main families, and each one solves different things. This guide explains the differences and what to decide before designing.

Perforated façades

They cover the building with panels full of holes that let air and light through. They are the answer when something has to be hidden without being closed in: staircases, outdoor corridors, car parks, air-conditioning units. From outside you read a continuous surface; from inside, you can see out.

With holes of different sizes, waves or gradients can be drawn across the whole façade.

Pierced façades

They carry a pattern cut into the sheet. With the circle design, every panel is different and the whole façade reads as one image. With tropical designs, palms, leaves and flowers give the building an identity. A pattern of your own, such as a brand’s logo, turns the façade into a sign.

Façades with volume

They use folded, perforated panels that stand out from the wall and give the building its shape. In the sun, every fold casts shadows that change through the day. They are the ones that most transform a concrete box.

What to decide first

What you want to achieve: hide, filter the sun, give privacy or create an image. How much light and air should pass. The material, chosen for the height and the exposure to the sea from carbon steel, galvanized steel, stainless steel and aluminium. The colour, which on a hotel is often set by the brand, as on the façade we made for the Hotel Hilton in Punta Cana. And whether it will be lit from behind at night.

From 3D to the site

Before cutting, we show you the whole façade in 3D, panel by panel. Every panel leaves the plant cut, bent, painted and numbered, and is installed in its position by our own team, at height too, so the pattern stays continuous.

Afterwards

By the sea, the Coast Plan checks rust and corrosion, touches up paint and anchors and delivers a photo report. Every piece carries its QR-code plate with its history.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between perforated and pierced?

Perforated has holes that let air and light through; pierced has a pattern cut into the sheet.

Can it hide air-conditioning units?

Yes. Perforated façades and cut-pattern covers hide the units and let the air through.

Can I see the façade before it is made?

Yes, in 3D, panel by panel.
