Maintaining steel structures on the coast

By the sea, metal works against salt air every day. A well-made structure lasts much longer if it is checked in time, and one nobody looks at starts to fail in the details: a bolt, an anchor, an unpainted edge. This guide explains what to check and how to organise it.

Where rust starts

Salt settles on every surface, but rust starts where protection is weakest: bolts, welds, cut edges, scratches in the paint and joints where water collects. That is why a useful inspection does not look at the structure from a distance: it goes up close to those points.

What to check

On roofs: the bolts, the overlaps and the gutters. On façades and cut-pattern panels: the anchors and the edges. On bolted pergolas: the tightness of the bolts, which loosen with wind and temperature changes. On stairs and railings: the welds and the bases. On all of them: the paint, because a touch-up in time avoids a repair later.

The Coast Plan

Our Coast Plan, designed for structures and façades, includes inspection for rust and salt-air corrosion, paint and anchor touch-ups, re-tightening of bolts and checking of welds, and a photo report. The Complete Plan adds the Energy Plan for panels, remote monitoring, priority service and a visit calendar with automatic reminders.

With a history

Every piece we make carries its QR-code plate. Scan it and you see the date of fabrication, the inspections and tests, the warranty, the use and care manual, the maintenance history and a button to request service. So, years later, anyone knows what was done and when, even if the administration has changed.

Before hurricane season

The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June to November. An inspection before it starts, paying special attention to roof bolts and to the anchors of façades and pergolas, is the most useful moment of the year for maintenance.

For structures we did not build

If another shop made your structure, send us photos and the location. We tell you what we see and how we would organise the maintenance, with a clear price, what it includes and the visit calendar.

Frequently asked questions

What does the Coast Plan include?

When is the best time to check?

On a schedule; before hurricane season is the most useful moment.

How do I know what was done on each visit?

Through each piece’s QR-code plate, which keeps its maintenance history.
